The Maypole is a Motueka & Harlequin pale ale inspired by the shadowed past of a 17th-century inn on the village green in York (now known as the Old Grey Mare, a Brew York bar). Once host to betrayal, poison, and fire, its story lingers—where two lovers met their fate in 1647 and flames claimed the building a year later. This beer revives that history: bright on the surface, with a darker tale beneath.
Pouring pale gold with a soft haze, it bursts with lime zest, peach, and tropical fruit. Motueka brings crisp citrus bite, while Harlequin adds juicy sweetness and subtle depth. Smooth and refreshing, it finishes clean with a lingering edge—inviting another sip, but never fully revealing its secrets.
